Application solution for library industry

According to different libraries, Shanghai RFID System Technology Co., Ltd. has designed an automatic system of book management, which is organically combined with the advanced RFID technology. The RFID intelligent system of book collection of RFID library includes: self-borrowing, workstation of librarian, switching of tag, enquiry, and system of sequential shelving and checking, 24-hour self-returning, and devices of intelligent detection, etc.

The complete RFID system hierarchy includes RIFD device, controller, and middleware as well as management and application levels; wherein, the RFID device level is to gather RFID information and to fulfill the reading of book RFID tags; the controller one is to initially analyze the data, judge the condition, and monitor the triggering of RFID RFID tag; the middleware one serves as the tie between RFID system and others, and screens out the software differences of software interfaces and data in application level; the management and application levels are related to the operating flow and business. On a basis of the RFID system hierarchy above, and aiming at the detailed requirements of library RFID project, the company has designed the functional framework of RFID library shown in Diagram (II) below. As in this diagram, we can see seven basic modules of operating function, including book borrowing and returning, checking, and sequential shelving, tag switching and generating, as well as searching and anti-theft detecting. The middleware serves as a bridge for these modules and the library management as well as one-card through management systems. They exchange data on the network or device level.

The management software of library system adopts the original library management system, in which the RFID middleware is applied to read/write tag data, control devices, and connect the data interface of the former library management software.

Compared with conventional RIFD system framework, the above one has the advantages that:

The RFID system exchanges data with the existing book management one through RFID middleware. Thus, the data between the two different systems is well combined, and the independence and soundness of the two different systems are ensured. By adopting such framework, if one system is changed, then we need not modify the other one but the RFID middleware. In this way, we can guarantee the opposition between different systems.
